Zakynthos Town is the capital and the cultural center of the island, which has several points of interest.
The Solomou Square is the main square of the island and there is a statue of the poet Dionysios Solomos who wrote the National Anthem of Greece and gave his name to the square.
Many impressive buildings are located at the Solomou square like the Church of St. Nicolas, the Byzantine Museum of Zakynthos, the Cultural Centre of Zakynthos. In the the Cultural Centre we can find the Municipal Library, the Gallery and the Cinema of the city. A few meters away we find Saint Mark's Square where there is the Museum of Solomos and Kalvou with many personal belongings of the poets.
The square was named after the church, but was destroyed by the earthquake in 1953 and was rebuilt. Around the square there are restaurants and cafes where we can enjoy our food, coffee or drink.
CHURCH OF ST. DIONYSIOU
In the church of St. Dioysiou are kept the relics of St. Dionysio and protector of the island.
The church is located directly on the beach and is instantly recognizable. A great festive honors the Saint of Zakynthos and lasts three days starting from August 23rd to 25th. On August 24th the relics are being processed in the center of the town.
Next to the church you will find the monastery of St. Dionysios and the museum that explains the history of the Church and the Saint.
In the surroundings of the town there is hill of Bohali, which is known for the panoramic view. There we find the Venetian Castle and the Maritime Museum. We also find many cafes and restaurants to sit and enjoy the beautiful view.

A Historical Important Location because Dionysios Solomos wrote the national anthem there while he was listening to the cannons of Messolonghi.
